The NEC was faced with a very heavy agenda for the meeting because not only was there the much-heralded arrival of Margaret Beckett’s Learning the Lessons taskforce report, but we were to hear from Alan Johnson who is masterminding our Labour In For Britain referendum campaign, and Kezia Dugdale, the Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, and her team.

The NEC is united in its support for Jeremy as he gets to grips with a very difficult job. I worked with Jeremy in NUPE before he became an MP. I have never met anyone as dedicated. Jeremy is totally exceptional. Party members want to give Jeremy a chance to show what he can do. The small number of “comrades” who are briefing the media against Jeremy are not only disloyal to our elected leader but are harming our party. Party members are unlikely to forgive them for the damage they are doing.

National Executive Committee, 22 September 2015

Ann Black reports on Labour’s national executive committee meeting which took place this month.

NEC meetings have their own familiar rituals, and though the world may have changed, the routine remained the same.  Members welcomed the return of Dennis Skinner, replacing John Healey who is now in the shadow cabinet, and congratulated Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson on their election as leader and deputy leader.  Both addressed the NEC and responded to questions and comments.

Contemporary motions 2015 Print E-mail

Each CLP can submit a Contemporary Motion to this year’s Annual Conference (closing date 12 noon on Thursday 17 September 2015), provided the CLP did not submit a rule change in 2015.

Contemporary Motions are one of the few opportunities that constituencies have to influence the Conference agenda and thus the Party’s policy making.
